Christmas is coming...

the Mummy McTavish is getting fat, please put a penny in the old man's hat.
I don't know who that old man is but he should be pretty rich by now, rich with pennies that are useless as currency here, but rich none the less.

Please excuse the munching in the background. I loaded the dishwasher and only found half a load so I decided to finish off the biscuits in the bikkie bucket to have something else to help fill up the washer... that's totally a reasonable excuse isn't it?

I know it's Friday and other people do their randomness on Mondays or Tuesdays or something but I am feeling wild so here's my totally random Christmas themed thoughts for today.

I need to bake two or three Christmas cakes this weekend. I only wanted to do a small one so I thought I would offer the rest of the mix to my friend so she can make one (or I'll make it for her really) and we'll decorate them together but the mix doesn't do two that are a decent (yet small) size so I've thrown in some more fruit to soak to make a double mix and I'll make three small ones and give the third away... undecorated though.

I have to have the boys Christmas shirts done by next Tuesday for playgroup. I don't really, I could use the many Christmas shirts we already have for the playgroup Christmas breakup but I also need to get a photo of the boys in their Christmas shirts with enough time for me to procrastinate and not get anything done with it for Christmas.

I bought a set of star cookie cutters the other day. I needed a big one for my Christmas cake and the set of 5 was the same price as buying one big one all by itself. I am thinking we might try Mum-me's Cookie Christmas Tree this year. I don't have a good record with rolled and cut biscuits though so we'll see how it goes. I'll have to see if I can find an idiot-proof recipe.

I have also bought some stuff for some Christmassy craft for me to put aside and forget about until after Christmas the kids to do.

My next Christmas dilemma is the candy cane issue. They are the kiddie-crack of Christmas, are they not? They send the kids crazier than just about any other lolly the rest of the year and they are handed out as freely as prescription meds at schoolies. This year I was thinking I'd do a candy cane exchange for the boys. I'd buy a bunch of natural candy canes and when they got a kiddie-crack-cane I'd exchange it for one that wasn't quite so bad. Problem is I can't find any natural candy canes. I have a feeling I'll have to resort to stealing the kids lollies like I have in years past. I found 4 candy canes in the fridge when I cleaned it out for the men to take it away, I don't know how many years they have been in there.

I also bought a frog shaped cookie cutter when I bought the star ones... it was too cute to leave on the shelf.
Because I hate to post without a photo here's one of Lion "rockin' out" on his air guitar as Miss L entered the church for her wedding... He was silently rockin' and I am sure Miss L will have a laugh when I tell her about it when she returns from her honeymoon. Miss L is their favourite babysitter. And before you ask, yes, my son wore that to a wedding. It was a last minute decision to go and Wolf and I were dressed a lot better but the kids were in nice clothes but not dressy clothes, we just went for a sticky beak. She was beautiful but none of my photos worked out because they have a lot of tall friends and family so they all had strangers heads in the way. Lion's quote of the day was "I know which one is her but I just don't recognise her" I think that's a compliment. Dragon was sad and pouty because she was getting married. He cheered up a bit when we explained that she will still be able to babysit him and he can still be her friend, she'll just be Mrs L now.

  1. Any day is good for being random, choosing a random day of the week just makes it more so.

I haven't made Christmas cookies in a couple of years, it's always work and I always procrastinate and then the kids want to help which means there will be flour everywhere and batter in my hair.

I still need to get a Christmas tree and don't even get me started on the shopping.

They make all natural candy canes?

  2. And I love Lion's quote about Miss L. Beautiful brides are tough to recognize. Have a great weekend.

  4. Mummy McTavish getting fat - as if jellyfish!

I made gingerbread with Cousin Wilbie the other day. We had a lot of fun but it sure is a lot harder when you have a 2 year old helper.

Hope you get everything you want done but remember, you are a mother of three boys including a newborn. Don't put too much pressure on yourself!

  5. I like the sound of all that baking and cookie cutters. I'm glad you didn't leave the frog behind.
I relented this year and bought candy canes for the boys to give out to others and then Rowan said that his teacher had told them it wasn't on. So now we have a stash at home. They are horrible things.
I seem to be going no where fast with all the Christmas preparations. I'll just have to try and relax and enjoy what ever happens.

  6. I also have a frog cookie cutter which I also couldn't leave on the shelf when I went shopping for gingerbread man cutters once. That was way back when our 'Dragon' used to be 'Froggie'.

  7. I enjoyed your random christmas post! Hope you got those chrissy cakes done - I made 2 today, but haven't decorated yet!
I like the sound of those star cutters & will have to visit Mum-me's site to see her cookie tree!
Your boys are so cute with their babysitter getting married - know her, but not recognising!!
Sorry can't help with the candy canes, but my kids have never really recieved many (in fact I've been guilty of encouraging then to give them out to others' children with christmas cards). Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  8. I'm always loving new cookie cutters... I'm just not a great cookie baker. My daughter and I have made a certain type of cookie two Christmases in a row now... We use food coloring and the cookie press that stays in the cabinet the other eleven months to accomplish this task.

... love the randomness by the way...

  9. Great randomness - in fact, most days for me feel pretty random. If you live in a hot and humid climate, do not actually hang cookies on a tree -it doesn't work in 30 C and 80% humidity. Believe me, I tried. But that stacking tree I think can work if done not too long before the time.

I'd love to hear from you, even if it's just to say "Hi, I stopped by for a read today"
