In the Trenches

That's how I'm feeling right about now.  Like we've dug ourselves in and are waiting, watching, listening... was that murmur from him?  Will it lead to anything?  Have we tried all our options?  If we go out will that be when it happens?  How many days has it been now?  What's left in our arsenal?  Are we ready for it when it happens?

Our enemy is constipation.  It's victim is the smallest member of our force.  Poor Monkey is so plugged up, he's uncomfortable and grumpy and just wants to poop.  With little sense of smell I feel like I am checking in his pants 500 times a day to see if anything has happened... it hasn't.

I thought mums focused on poop an awful lot... until I got this kid who didn't poop from last Wednesday through til Monday and then stopped again... now I feel like I can't possibly fit another poop focused thought in my head without inappropriately discussing my child's bowel movements with the checkout chick or something.

He has just started solids, that is a bit of a hit to his little system and caused some mild blockages.  Then the doc recommended mixing his fruit etc with formula instead of rice cereal to help fatten him up... formula didn't agree with him when we got him to take a small amount from a bottle so I figured we'd have a few problems but going from twice a day to 5 days with no poop was NOT what I expected.  Then when he did poop (last Monday) it hurt and he cried and cried and it made me sad that I couldn't help him.

Coloxyl drops were recommended by a friend so we are giving him those three times a day.  I was giving him diluted pear juice but he was actually drinking so little that I ramped it up and gave it to him straight.

It's draining, he isn't comfortable doing anything so he wants to be held constantly.  Getting him to be happy and play and stuff takes lots of work.  It's going to wear me out worse than lack of sleep if this turns out to be a long term problem.

Now, just so this isn't a totally poopy post... I found some creatures playing in what looked like a little billabong in our back yard.  I think they were bunyips, I got a photo of a bit of them, what do you reckon?

UPDATE: He pooped again this afternoon.  No crying, no pain, we didn't even know he had pooped for a little while.  We are keeping up the treatments as preventative measures now until his body has a chance to get used to the strange foods.  YAY!

Sunday Snapshot

Totally mixing it up today... Sunday Snapshot on a MONDAY!!!  Hold on to your hats, folks, if it's starting off this crazy who knows where it'll go!

*****

Lion wrote a song this week...

*air guitar intro* Dang ga dang ga dang... "You've got three minutes..."  Dang ga dang ga dang dang dang ga dang "we need a flat piece of steel..." Dang ga dang dang dang ga dang ga dang "We're going to the junkyard to look for an engine..." Dang ga dang ga dang ga dang ga dang ga....

My boy can't get enough of Junkyard Wars... or Scrapheap Challenge... or any of those shows.

"Help, there's a dinosaur drowning in my coffee!"

I made coffees yesterday, cappuccino for Wolf and I and babyccino for the boys.  The kids had the dinosaur sprinkles on their babyccinos and Wolf decided he wanted them too... sometimes it's fun to be a bit childish.

I knew it would happen one day, I thought it would happen sooner than this!  Lion had a little mishap while wiping his bottom yesterday... it was hilarious... he didn't think so.  He had taken himself to the toilet and obviously was finished and wiping his butt when we hear screaming coming from the toilet and lion comes running out with one hand held as far away from him as he can get it and the other holding his shirt up "I WAS WIPING MY BUTT AND MY FINGER WENT THROUGH THE TOILET PAPER AND I'VE GOT POO ON MY FINGERS!!!!  SOMEONE TURN ON THE TAP QUICKLY!!!"

My laughter was quickly met by another scream "It's really not funny, mummy, it's soooo gross!"  yes, we have discussed that before little man.

"I've got my snugly to take to bed with me" says Dragon.

*****

Sunday School started yesterday.  Dragon gets to go this year, he was VERY excited.  At the moment it looks like he is going to be the only one from his age group that is going to go.  They are allowed to go at 3 as long as they can at least try to sit and listen and participate.  Dragon is better at that than Lion so I figured we'd be okay.  Dragon was absolutely thrilled that he was allowed to go and do the craft and listen to the story and sing the songs and do whatever else they do at Sunday School, he has been waiting for so long to be allowed to go!

Is it just me or do these two...

...look like they have escaped from the Village People?

Today is my first day with just Monkey Man and I.  I've got to admit, I'm quite enjoying it.  I just had lunch... I got the container with the leftover chicken still on the frame out of the fridge, put it on the bench and stood there and ate some.  Kids kinda expect you to make them something for lunch, dumping a dead, cooked animal down in front of them just doesn't cut it.  Picky picky.  Monkey and I did some shopping this morning because we needed a few things and it was so lovely, just the two of us.  I can be sad that the big boys are gone, but since that isn't going to change I'm not going to feel guilty having a lovely day without them!

Finally... Update on Kate... 34 weeks, blood sugar levels are good thanks to nightly insulin and babies are still growing well. Dr is unlikely to induce babies until at least 37 weeks. She would appreciate prayer for more sleep at night and a smooth transition for little Wilbie when she is in hospital.  34 weeks was the magic date to be allowed to go to the hospital that she wants to.  YAY WE MADE IT... (I say that like I had something to do with it... hehehehe).  Don't worry, I will certainly be shouting it from the blog-tops with these little sweeties are born!!!

Mummy McTavish Says

I don't do poo on Mother's Day.

No nappies and no wiping butts.

Funny, the only one that had a problem with this declaration was Wolf...

A List and an assortment of other stuff...

Things you would think a three year old would have picked up on by now but obviously hasn't.
1. Mummy will not buy you something in every shop you go into.
2. Mummy will not take you to the toy section every time you go into a shop.
3. Mummy will not buy you a pie for morning tea when everyone else is sharing a marked down Woolworths cake.
4. Mummy will not give in just because you keep begging for a pie and to go to the toy section and to be allowed "just one hot wheels".
5. Mummy will not buy you a coffee from Gloria Jeans
6. Or a pie so give up!
7. Mummy is right.
8. There is no chance that mummy will change her mind on issues like wearing seatbelts and wearing undies.
9. No I still won’t buy you a pie.

We got home at nap time and both boys were awake, I got out of the car, unlocked the door and put the key inside, I came back to the car and both boys were asleep. I wish it was that easy every day. No it wasn’t carbon monoxide poisoning, I took less than 30 seconds.

Lion McT - Mummy I have a sore throat.
Mummy McT - Oh, can I kiss it?
LMcT - No, I need something to eat to make it feel better.
MMcT - Can I kiss you?
LMcT - Yes, (mummy kisses his neck) on the outside because you can’t kiss the inside my brain is on the inside.
MMcT - Oh, is it? (Looking in ear) I can’t see it.
LMcT - I’m just going to go have a look in your mirror to see if I can see it LMcT - (comes back) yes it is on the inside I can see it in you mirror.
MMcT - Okay, that’s good.
LMcT - 10 minutes later (obviously concerned). Now can you see my brain, it is in there.
MMcT - Oh, I can see something, that must be your brain.
LMcT - Yeah I did just feel it when I poked my finger in my ear, I did just feel it.

Lion’s guide to the human body. “Our tummies have sharp things inside them for when we eat our food.”

Background… Mummy McT needed to squeeze the toothpaste all down to the end this morning so that Lion could get some out for brushing his teeth.
Lion was getting a little stinky so I suspected something was moving but he didn’t want to do a poo… When he was walking around with his hand on his belly I suggested it might be time to do the poo we had been discussing. He agreed and sat on the toilet making some weird movements and straining noises. He did the job and I asked what all the strange actions and noises were.
“I just toothpasted my poo down.”

And all of that other stuff happened while I was writing the list at the start. Some days there isn't much, others you can't keep up with it.
