But does it work???

When I find something that works, I like to share it. Likewise when I find something that doesn’t *cough netipot cough cough* I share that too. I have recently found the Method cleaning products. Mostly I don’t use a lot of sprays and stuff and I try and enjo where I can but the bathroom has been the bane of my existence. Soap scum on the glass screen just annoys me so much and nothing seems to work other than scrubbing at it with yucky chemicals which then will end up in the kid’s bath water. In comes "Daily Shower Spray" This stuff claims that all you have to do is mist it over the surfaces after your shower and it will just dissolve the grot away for you. Just like that, no scrubbing, no yucky chemicals, no work at all! I have been using it for a week now and it is working!!!!!!!!!! It’s working I tell you, working!!! The spots with the least build up have become cleaner and cleaner and the spots that are a bit worse are showing improvement (sounds like a kids report card). Oh, I like this stuff.

*to be fair to the neti pot I have since read the novel sized brochure that comes with it which seemed to actually be trying to sell you a different product and giving information about a different product but I’m guessing that it’s all roughly the same, it says don’t use it if your nose is blocked, wait for it to clear or use a spray or something to clear it before you neti pot it. My nose is never clear and those sprays don’t work most of the time. Wolf can have it.

I MUST ADD... please dont think for a second that because I am touting the wonder of this cleaning product that my house is clean. It is not, I am quite possibly the worst house keeper on the face of the earth!! Please dont EVER look in the background of our photos. My house is the one that must exist because without it no one would think there was anything special about the "Home Beautiful" magazines:)

Don't all rush out and buy one...

Okay, the neti pot experiment was odd. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. My nose was a little blocked at the time, only on one side, I wondered how this would effect things. Turns out it made the disgusting tasting water run down the back of my throat causing me to feel like I was drowning in the sea... in my own own bathroom.
Wolf told me that I must have done something wrong and that I had to keep my mouth open and breathe normally. I told him I did. He told me I had to breathe normally and keep my mouth open. I told him I did. He told me… well you get the idea, he just didn’t believe that I could be doing it right and not getting the results they said I would. So what results did I get other than the urge to get my lungs pumped? I got a lovely breezy feeling in my sinus cavities and my sense of smell back for a few hours!!!! That’s right, I could smell!! It’s weird, when you first blow all the water back out of your nose (and hack up all the fluid from your lungs) it’s like someone is blowing fresh mountain air straight up your nostrils. Well the one that was working anyway. I did get a trickle of flow happening when I went through the blocked side, and the rest went to my lungs, but going via the clear side it all hit the blockage in the other nostril and went down my throat. But I could smell, I smelt the lovely dinner that was cooked for me by some lovely ladies at our church (thanks J & D), I smelt the body wash that I bought months ago and have just recently discovered that it doesn’t smell real nice and I wont be buying it again, Ditto for the hair spray stuff I have been using. And then it left. Half way through dinner I lost my sense of smell. I think that was because I lost my one clear nostril too due to being allergic to one of the drinks that was served.

I wasn’t planning on being this open with the ins and outs of the neti pot but you asked so I have delivered. My thoughts thus far… I can see how it can be good… I won't give up on it just yet… I’m not exactly eager to give it another go though… but I will.

Neti-Pot Fun

Some people were interested in how this Neti-Pot thing works. I tried it and it was... unpleasant but strangely satisfying at the end. Maybe because it is similar to going to the dentist. The anticipation of it happening, the unpleasantness and then the relief of it all being over. However it does seem to have worked for me, my blocked and running nose has cleared and I can feel the chill of the air running through places in my nasal passages which haven't felt the chill air for a while. But it doesn't seem to be the cure-all it claims. (Mummy McT just said you may have to do it twice a day for real benefit... ummm no thanks)

One guy who we watched trying it for the first time screamed 'AHHH! I THINK IT TOUCHED MY BRAIN!!' Yeah I can relate to that after trying it. I offered to video tape Mummy McT trying it but she said no. I think her exact words were 'I'm not going to let you record me doing something stupid and potentially embarrassing for posterity.'

So here is someone else (it's not me, even if some people think I'm hairy and stupid). So now for your enjoyment... someone else causing themselves discomfort.

I bought a neti pot

I am trying to use as few medications as possible, I have in the past just put up with a lot of stuff instead of seeing if there are other ways to remedy the problem without using normal medicines. I have been using some homeopathic stuff and loving it but today I bought a neti pot. I am dreading using it. If you dont know what a netipot is it's a teapot shaped thing that you fill with a warm saline mix and stick the spout in one nostril, tilt you head and it all runs through your sinus cavities and out the other nostril. sounds like fun doesn't it? It is supposed to flush dust and pollens and mucus and all that delightful stuff out so you can get back to having clear sinus passages. I often get a day of really bad hayfever and two days later I have a cold, apparently that is the way things work but a neti pot can break the cycle so that infection doesnt get in all is well. I can hardly use nasal spray things so how I will manage this I dont know, Wolf is prepared to try it but he can snort water up his nose to clear it out anyway, I cant watch that either! Well, I've blogged it now. I'll let you know how it goes... if you want to know.
