Super Heroes In Training

Just another day at the office for the Super Heroes In Training.
(don't make that one into an acronym... I almost did and realised just in time)
Thanks for the shirts Nano!

Lion found a brand new school bag under the Christmas tree, he was excited but it quickly got pushed to the side for all the Lego and other toys until today.
Lion came into my room today while I was trying (for the zillionth time, thanks to the big boys) to get Monkey to sleep. I silently did my block at him and signalled in no uncertain terms that he was to remove himself from the room post-haste... it didn't work... "I just came in to see how I look wearing my new school bag" he says as he turns to the mirror and does a little back-and-forth to look at himself properly, "I look pretty good". What a sweet little thing he is, "yes you do, Lion. You do look pretty good."
I am going school supply shopping tomorrow. We are getting so close to it now, I have realised that one day a week I will have only Monkey at home. It makes me so happy that I will get to spend that time with him and he will get a break from his brothers (because lets face it, he really needs a break from all their loving) but it makes me sad that my crazy noisy house will be so much quieter on Mondays with just me and the baby. I need to pick up a few things for Dragon to start kindy too but I'm not making too much of a big deal out of that, I think his personality needs it to just be made out to be an "everyday" type thing, just going off to play with Miss C at kindy... have I told you his kindy teacher will be Miss C, Lion's first kindy teacher and a friend of ours since before we had kids? I am so happy about that... I don't think he would have been in on the idea of kindy if it wasn't for going to play with Miss C. God has this all under control... I just need to keep reminding myself of that. God will look after Lion no matter what school he goes to, I can stop worrying about picking the "right" school. God is preparing friends for both boys at Kindy and School and preparing them to be friends to others so I can stop worrying about that. God is preparing their teachers (oh boy, do they need preparation for Lion!) so I can stop worrying about the "right" teacher. Lion's compassion will be a positive and not a vulnerability, his heart-on-his-sleeve will encourage others and not make him a target for bullies, he's stronger than I give him credit for.
Anyway, I love shopping for stationery and stuff. I'm quite looking forward to that aspect of it. My teacher friends have given me advice on where it's okay to cut corners on brands and where it's not. Which cheap brand is good and which brand name brand is rubbish. Which items get stolen and how to name them so the teacher knows for sure who they belong to. What lunch box foods teachers hate in their class and which ones are winners. I've got the best friends!
It is going to be a year full of learning for all of us... I can't wait!

Classic Little Boy Dreams

Little Dragon found a 'cape' yesterday and excitely asked me to put it on. After I did he was banging on the door while asking to be let out so he could fly around in the wind. As a world-weary adult I assumed that he wanted to stand outside and let the wind blow his new cape.

No not the case... he had assumed that because he had a cape he now had the ability to actually fly.

The poor boy was so upset that Daddy wouldn't let him climb on the roof of the car and jump off.

'But Daa-aad... eyekin really FLY!'

My OTHER Son Has Superpowers... How About Yours?

So Lion's superpower is some sort of personality probe, we figured that one out a while back. Dragon's power has been a mystery to us, he has a bit of the same ability as Lion in the personality probe but not to the same degree. He has given flying a good go but so far, nothing but bruises. Deadly gas? well, lets just not go there, it is all too real a possibility. I think I may have figured out his unique super power.

He's a jumper (technical term provided by Wolf). I can be doing something, Dragon is happily playing in another room, I can HEAR him playing in another room, I step back to turn around and I stand on him. He just materialises right under my feet. He teleports himself to right where I am about to step. I don't know how many times in the last few days he has been on the receiving end of my backside to his face as I step back, it cant be pleasant. I am not sure in what way this will come in handy but I am bound to find something.

*They chose their own clothes on wednesday hence the mismatched and baby clothes. Lion picked his and then of course Dragon realised how that worked and wanted to try it. Then Lion decided he needed a cape (it was my bothers when he was little, made by my aunt, batman on one side and superman on the other) so Dragon needed a cape too. Thankfully a teatowel held on with some cotton tape was sufficient for him. I just keep thinking of the "Incredibles" line "NO CAPES". Unfortunately they just wouldnt pose for a photo :(

I'm Alright! Nothing Serious

A few posts back Mummy McT wrote about how a itty-bitty tree snake (we now call 'Cranky') was 'freakin' her out' because it was in the back yard eating a frog, the wrong way around. Anyhow, my sister commented that being such a big strong man I should have done something to save the poor frog.

Well in order to save my manly image I decided to track down this snake and put things right. So down to the gully beside our house I trek. There is a nice big concrete tank down there where we regularly find snakes sunning themselves, especially after all the unusual cold wet days we've been having, it should be swarming with snakes.

I took our video camera in order to capture the moment so you can imagine my surprise when I came across 'Cranky's' big brother.

It's OK, I'm alright, I discovered my superpower is ultra-sonic speed, because I'm sure I heard the sound barrier break on my way back up the gully to the road. All I got was a little scratch above the eye where the camera slammed into my face.

My son has superpowers... how about yours?

There is a car ad on lately where this guy is flying through the air, I think it's supposed to be saying something about the car's ride that it'll feel like your flying or something. Lion was watching it a while back and was oblivious to the rest of the world. His mouth was hanging open and he was just in awe! He whispers to me... "Mummy, that guy's superpower is flying. I dont know what my superpower is... Yet." Well, I have figured it out.

Okay, I was having a good day. We had been to playgroup, kids had behaved, we got home without any screaming in the car, I got kids out, changed Dragon's nappy, then Lion used his superpowers on me. I went from sweet mummy to screaming banshee in under a second. Well, maybe under a minute. He climbed up to the table to play with the things up there he knew he shouldnt touch, I told him to get down (and Dragon because "dragon see dragon do"). I told him 2 more times to get down before he did. Once he was down he started to grab things off the bench that he shouldn't touch. Now, we have a rule in our house that you don't go pulling stuff down off the bench even if it's yours. The reasoning is, it might knock something dangerous down that you cant see and you will get hurt so you always ask a grown up to get it for you. So reaching up to get something you know you shouldn't have really gets on mummy's goat! Then "Dragon see, Dragon do". He had been using lovely manners all morning, "excuse me", "please", "thank you" but all of a sudden he is being rude and obnoxious and backchatting and giving me "those" looks. It was all beyond mummy's capabilities for reasonableness. So, Lion's superpower is some sort of personality probe. It can turn a sweet, gentle person (if anyone disagrees with that i'll show you just how "sweet and gentle" I can be) into a screaming banshee, a happy person crankky in an instant, it can make the crankiest person start laughing and even shoot snot out their nose trying to cover up their laughter, the saddest person smile, oh, I guess it's not all bad... Pitty though, if his superpower had been something like flying he could clean the baked beans off our ceiling.
