Rain Dance for Mum-me

Mum-me said...
Please get your two little rain-sogged darlings to do and rain dance (and prayer) for us today - it's already 30*C at 9.30am and we're heading for 40 ..... and no air conditioning.

We have said our prayer but do you remember...

When I was boy we would be sent outside, Mum and Dad made us run around house to make a breeze. Now when I say house I mean it was a old coal hopper near the steel works blast furnace. 40*C! Ha! We used to dream of it cooling down to 40. Luxury!!

and now for the rain dance:

and the post rain dance - I like to call this one Splat!:

Come to Australia

Further to this, this, and this that we have previously blogged about and this that my SIL mum-me has alerted me to (seen one of these all too closely) comes this great song from the Scared Weird Little Guys. These fellas are funny, check them out on youtube sometime (not now, you should be reading my blog right now).

Ahh, the land down-under. Known for it's beaches, reef, rainforests, weird accent and menagerie of death. Our backyard is plenty big enough to fit your tent in, come and stay for a while, or until something gets you...

*Disclaimer*

Why oh why do I get myself into these messes...

Disclaimer (this is directed at you POSSUM)
We do not have dessert for dinner very often. Actually I cant remember the last time we had dessert for dinner. My children are force fed vegetables and other healthy type foods 364 300 and somethin' days a year.

There are rules attached to dessert for dinner.

1. Dessert for dinner is only for days when mummy picks it.
2. Kids may not be the one to choose dessert for dinner.
3. Mummy can veto any former decision to have dessert for dinner based on childrens behaviour or just that she could no longer be bothered.
4. Mummy is the boss of dessert for dinner. she picks what we eat, she picks when we eat it, she is in charge.

So to anyone out there who may feel that they have been deprived by not having dessert for dinner *glares at Possum* you'll just have to wait. It's all up to your Mum-me. Although I think the occasional pancakes for dinner is a pretty good deal and keep in mind, my boys wouldnt be getting cinnamon scrolls for breakfast. It's cereal or fruit all the way for them, poor deprived little darlings.

Now get off the computer and do your homework Possum.

(Am I back in your good books Mum-me??)

PS. Thanks Octamom for your lovely comments on my spectacularly gorgeous children (okay, perhaps that's not quite how you said it but I know it's what you meant:) if you havent seen the original post for where the header photos came from you can find it *here*

Dessert for Dinner...

What do you do when you were going to have "Dessert for Dinner" and make this...

for your kids (and husband) but they (the kids) just wont leave you alone to cook and cooking with them is just more than you can deal with at the moment and as the afternoon wears on you really dont feel like doing a special dinner for the little ferals anyway? No seriously... what do you do? We usually eat at 6:30 and it's 6:10 now, and I have no idea. Probably should be figuring it out instead of blogging.

ps. I didnt ask your permission to use that photo, Mum-me, *bad blogger, bad, bad blogger* but I am hoping linking to you helps ease the deep anger you are feeling right now.
pps. No, Mum-me doesnt really get angry over things like this, she is very hard to frazzle, really, she has six kids, better things to do with her time!!!

The snails seem to have moved out...

I had been thinking of doing this since I read on Blogtations about their 500th Quote Celebrations. I just needed a prod in the right direction from Mum-me :)

I was tempted to vote for Mum-me's quote about going to the toilet (is it called "narcissistic tendencies" if it's family you vote for? it's not actually me?) But I figured I should go back to the one that has been ringing in my ears for about 6 weeks now. I came across this quote just as our snotscapades were starting, SIX weeks later I am the only one still desperately trying to kick this thing, unfortunately I was the first to get it too, YAY ME! I've got sticking power, not like those other wimps that had it for a week or two, I've managed to hold onto my wog for six weeks (and counting...) so what on earth could be ringing through my ears 1000 times a day??? This quote...

Folks, my cup runneth over with mucus and I am now that proverbial mommy with shmears of snot decorating her clothes. It looks as if I have been herding snails over here.
~Rancid Raves

There were so many times it came to the front of my mind...

I had someone stop me in the shops to tell me that there was a HUGE smear of now glassy dried snot across my back. Of course I pretended I knew this and replied with that covers everything reply "yeah, I'm a mummy" when inside I was thinking "that little toad, I knew he wasn't just giving me a cuddle, and I actually felt sorry for him when I sneezed in his hair yesterday!"

I had to work in the shop for the first day in ages, I wore black, snot shows up best on black, each child had decided that that was the morning they were going to use my shoulders to wipe their grotty little noses AFTER I HAD LEFT THE HOUSE WITHOUT A CHANGE OF CLOTHES.

Dragon became OBSESSED with carrying around a soft old hanky in his pocket. Not to blow his nose on of course, mummy's shirt is loads nicer for that job, and who wants to put a snotty hanky back in their pocket?

I had better stop, I know some folk have weak stomachs and they only get worse from here...

So go along to Blogtations and join the party, even if you dont want to join in the games you can still troll through the mountains of great quotes! Just be careful, if your cup is running over with mucus some might make you laugh so hard you'll snot on your screen!

This is the link to Mum-me's quote in it's original context

-just in case you want to use her quote as your favourite:)

PS on the snot subject... cleaning my shower yesterday... does anyone else's kids pick their noses and wipe the little boogers on the wall tiles in the shower? No? Just mine? Figures. Took me ages scratching at them with my fingernail before I realised what they were, a little grossed out but figured it's not poo so that's a plus.

Time for some honesty...

After this post about our frog-eating-friend now dubbed "Cranky" Wolf was told pretty much that he was a big chicken for not rescuing the frog with this comment from his little sister...

I mean, what harm could a 60cm non poisonous snake do to a big man? Especially when it has a huge frog 1/4 way down it's throat?

So in reply wolf posted this. Which recieved these comments...

Wow, that is so coooool !!! So how big was 'big brother'? Does this make them 'cranky' & 'crankier'? What a great BBQ story you've got now (though would have been cooler with the fang marks to show for it !!)

and

You could have lied and said the scratch was from the fangs of the snake. But you didn't, so you are not just a big, strong man - you're a big, strong, honest man. But you'll always be my little big brother. That snake is lucky I wasn't there coz NO ONE attacks my brother!!!!! By the way, are you going to send that into funny home videos?

and within minutes of posting it he recieved a very concerned phone call from his MIL checking that he really was okay.

I had been suggesting we add an ammendment after only 1 person thought it was real, (which was when I first saw it) Wolf needed 3 people to believe him before he decided that he should submit a retraction. Actually people believing him was fine, it was his sister calling him honest that really made him think perhaps he should let people know it's not real. And if we are being really honest, we have no idea how to get our own videos on here anyway so it certainly cant be in our drain. I did inform my mum that she should have realised it wasnt real because if Wolf had discovered that snake in the drain beside our house I would have called her saying "get some beds ready, I'll be there in 10 minutes with the boys and all we need to survive until someone catches that thing".

So appologies from Wolf to those who believed him and consider this a warning from me... Dont believe everything you read on the net. Especially not if it involves Wolf McTavish!!!!!

-Mummy McT (and the first snake really was real and really was in our back yard, HONESTLY!!!)

Winter???

Dear Mum-me,
I thought I would respond to your query about our winter publicly, I figure it will give everyone a glimpse into our days of frostbite and frozen snot. Mum-me responded to this post with...

"I had to laugh at you calling 20 C WINTER! When it's 20 C down here we think it's a lovely warm day, dragon refuses to wear a jumper to school (actually he does that when it reaches 15 C) and we even consider going for a swim if it's not too breezy. It's a very pleasant 16 C at the moment. Does it ever get that cold in NQ?"

As I write this at 9pm it is a nose tingling 25C. We have pulled out the extra blankets and are rugging up for the night. I wish they built a fire place in this house!
Back in reality now... Yes it does get down that cold :P Just not until june or july. As far as the local landscape goes, we are quite a way inland and protected by some mountains so our suburb gets a few degrees cooler than most of the town. It has been known to unofficially dip below 0C on the odd day around our area. But that would be a very odd day.
There is a joke locally when visitors ask "when is winter?" or "how long is winter?" the response is "next wednesday" or "it was last tuesday, you missed it"
Christmas with you guys was the first time I EVER wore a jacket on Christmas day. I think I may have put on some long sleeves when the air conditioning in my aunts house was too cool one year up here.
I hope that gives you all a glimpse into the freezing weather we will be enduring over the next few months ;)

Love
Mummy McTavish

OOPS updated...

No Mum-me, the wee didn't go in the toilet, or anywhere. I think I possibly was a little distracted and went straight into clean up mode. I think I have trouble focusing when I'm covered in poo. :)
