Precious Pearls

We've got 'em.
Precious pearls indeed!
He's had two doses so far.

I just about cried when I was finally holding this medicine in my hands. Then later, after we gave him his first dose and I was rocking him to sleep I did cry. Not for my baby, not for the relief of finally having what we needed, but I started thinking about all the mothers who know that there is medicine out there that can heal their baby but they just can't get it. For us this wasn't a life and death situation. Monkey would have eventually been fine without the Zoton. For other mums it is life and death, they know that there is medication that can save their baby's life but for whatever reason they can't get it, can't afford it, aren't allowed it. It's unfair but it's every day life for some mums. I hate that. If you don't do it already please think about sponsoring a child through an organisation like Compassion (this is the Australian Website but you can find links from here) or give to one of the many programs that ask you to give just $5 to vaccinate a child or provide that life saving medication. I have linked to Compassion Australia because that is who we sponsor a child in Bolivia through. It costs so little we don't even notice the money is gone but it's enough to give her access to vitamins, doctors, medicines, school, good food, clean water, things I just don't have to worry about for my kids but for her parents it's life changing and possibly life saving.

And I got excited over those little pearls of Zoton.

  1. I'm glad you got what you needed for your little monkey, but you're right. Our good fortune should make us think of those less fortunate. Good for you for spreading such a positive message.

  2. You are right...there are so many who can't get the drugs they need. Compassion is a great organization. We used to sponsor a child as well, but I haven't since I've been married. I'd like to do it again. Thanks for the reminder.

  3. I'm so glad that you have your pearls and that Monkey is resting better. And what a great reminder about those children and their mothers who can't get what they need to simply survive. It's amazing what the cost of a frappucino can provide to a child in another country. Thanks for the reminder!

  6. I'm SO happy you were able to get the medication for Monkey, what a relief.

It is terribly sad to think about the mom's out there who are in the situation you mentioned. I'm ashamed to admit that it hadn't crossed my mind to sponsor a child before you mentioned it. I will be checking out that website, not sure if an american can contribute there but maybe I can find somewhere that I can from the website. Thank you for reminding me of something that should have occured to me already. We all know how hard it is to see our children in distress and I cannot imagine how heartbreaking it would be to not have access to whatever would make my child well again.
