Where I Wanna Be

Or, rather, "Where He Wants To Be".

Another post chronicling the other side of these three sweet little boys. I'm not complaining I'm too tired for that, I want to make sure I have both sides of the story to go back and read on those days when I think parenting is a breeze.

Monkey had some definite ideas today about how he was going to spend the day... and it involved my left shoulder... only my left shoulder at precisely the right height. So this is how I spent most of the day...

Don't be fooled, he's not asleep. He tricked me many times with this one today.

I quickly realised that we wouldn't be doing anything today. That if I managed to achieve anything it would be a bonus. So I put on my daggy clothes, left my hair and settled in for the long haul. I thought that after a loooong night of fitful sleep for Monkey (and therefore me) he would settle down and have a big sleep at at least one point today... nope. I wanted to put him in the sling but he's not a fan. I have had two boys who loved the sling but Monkey is not so delighted with being put in there. I think it has something to do with not being able to hold his head "just so". He has been very particular about the way he is held right since he was fresh out. It's odd since my left shoulder means he has his head facing the opposite direction to what he usually likes but who can understand a 13 week old?

Lion spent the day talking in his not so quiet voice and I spent the day interrupting him to let him know he was yelling at me and "I am right here, you don't need to yell". Dragon spent the day finding things to destroy/mess up/misplace/fiddle with etc. Dragon also found a new way to annoy Monkey by blowing in his face from two inches away from his nose. It's been a big day. We didn't go shopping for Grandad's birthday present. We didn't get any washing done or folding or sorting like I had hoped. We did play a few good games of Rat-a-tat-Cat. We did have some lovely office ladies from Lion's new school drop around with some scholarship forms for me to fill out (I had forgotten to go the school to fill them in and they needed to be filled out by this avo). I got LOTS of Monkey cuddles. Lion and Dragon did very little fighting. Wolf has come home and is playing a game of Monopoly with the boys so I don't have a nervous breakdown. I am cooking dinner and blogging. I guess it's not such a bad day at this end of it but in the thick of it I was sure it would never end!

  1. I'm hearing you about long days. Monkey does look mighty comfortable there but I'm thinking that it would be mighty hard to sustain that position for you.
    We have Rat-a-Tat-Cat. Great game.
Here's to a better day tomorrow.

  2. Scholarship forms? What's that all about?

I am missing my baby & would have loved to have been there & rescued you from all those cuddles.

Hope you get a better nights sleep tonight.

  5. Bless you! Those days make the good days all the more sweet, right? Of Course right.

Your profile is beautiful in the picture, so at least you looked good with a monkey on your shoulder.

Hugs, thanks for sharing both types of days we all have them and it's nice to know were not alone.

  6. He really couldn't look more adorable on your left shoulder. Sigh... this time goes so fast, unless you are the one holding the baby and getting NOTHING done. Good thing he is so darn adorable, huh?!

  8. Oh, I loved those days when Hannah just needed to be held. It gave me a good excuse for not getting anything else done in the house!

Take care and enjoy those moments when Monkey just needs to cuddle. It's called 'rest' for you!

  10. You're still getting the most important job done - caring for your precious boys. Don't feel guilty about letting everything else wait (easy to say, but hard to do).
Monkey sure is growing & is adorable!! You're doing a great job there!

  11. All I can say is thank God these days don't happen all the time! I don't think we'd survive! Glad you finally got a bit of a break once your husband got home (I really can't imagine being a single parent and think they should all get some kind of award...better yet, a spa day for being the sole care taker). Actually, all mom's should get a spa day...it should become a world holiday, don't you think?!

  12. Ugh! What a day! Have you ever tried a moby for him? It keeps him right against you like a sling and it really isn't hard to tie around you. Jonathan was very similar -- the reflux is what got him. . .He had to be held just right. I hope he starts to feel better soon and you get some sleep. Hang in there!

  15. I've had quite a few of those long LONG days lately, especially when my youngest won't nap. The afternoons are eternal sometimes when I've got three avoiding homework and one raving lunatic and dinner so obviously not getting done. Sometimes I'm surprisingly on my game and the kids cooperate, but you know, it's a toss up.

I love those beautiful baby cheeks. I don't miss the all day carry-me phase though.

I'd love to hear from you, even if it's just to say "Hi, I stopped by for a read today"
